Preoccupations comes after a trip made to the Czech Republic where I spent 2 months travelling a little, chasing squirrels and peacocks with my camera, and plenty of museum absorbing.The trip culminated at an artist residency in Klenova, a village of 100 people, which fortunately had facilities to make prints. I walked, viewed, drew, mushroomed in the woods, printed and cooked many soups. I spent a lot of time reflecting on my connection to place and wondered about the lives of my family and their possible connection to the views in front of me. Most works here were formed from photographs and cultural clichés were happily included to reflect my idealised, romanticised image of a place I come only to visit. Nostalgia is abundant. Found items I also paint on, I discriminately pick up to claim for myself as I do with my Czech identity.
